How should I prepare for my first healing treatment?

To prepare for your first treatment, I recommend that you wear comfortable clothing (most clients prefer athletic wear). I will ask you to remove your shoes and socks, if you are comfortable doing so. The massage table has a heated pad, so I can adjust the temperature to your preference. I keep a small fan in the room, as I have found that most people (myself included) enjoy a cooler room with good airflow, while laying on a heated bed. Sheets and blankets can be added or removed as desired. It is best to eat a balanced meal, which is neither too light nor too heavy, within 6 hours of your treatment. Please let me know in advance if you have any limitations or restrictions so that I can accommodate your needs.

What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a healing practice that originated in Japan in the early 1920’s. Reiki is translated as Rei (higher power) and ki (life force energy).  Reiki clears energy blockages and brings the body into balance using hands-on, hands-off, or a combination of the two techniques.

What should I expect during my first Reiki treatment?

Upon entering the space, I will ask you to sit down at the desk and write an intention for your session. Examples are: I would like to feel joy, I would like to relieve stress, I ask for guidance regarding “…”, I seek balance and good health, etc. I will give you a small piece of paper and ask you to write down the name of one person that you wish to bless with healing. That person’s name will go in a glass jar and each Wednesday morning at sunrise, I will perform a group Reiki session for everyone named in the jar. Dedicating some time each week to giving freely of my capabilities to assist others brings joy to my heart. Each of my healing sessions includes a water blessing, using a glass water bottle that I provide. While you are writing, I will perform the water blessing and select any crystals that I feel should be brought into your session. I will ask you to take a small sip of the water before we begin. If there are any particular scents or sounds that you do not care for, please let me know so that I can avoid using them during your session. I will ask you to remove your shoes and socks (if you are comfortable doing so) and lie down on the treatment table. At this time I can make any pillow, support, or temperature adjustments. I will place the crystals on and around your body, based on your comfort level. We will begin with an aura cleanse using either Palo Santo or White Sage spray, which is fanned over your entire body. Next, you will close your eyes and we will go through a brief meditation to bring you into a state of deep relaxation, ready to let go of any energy that no longer serves you and accept the positive energy that keeps your body balanced. I will then begin your treatment. My Reiki style consists of being led intuitively, so no 2 sessions are alike. Energy flows where energy is needed, so each individual will have a different experience. I incorporate sounds such as bells, chanting, chimes, drums, music, and singing bowls throughout the session. Underactive, overactive, or balanced chakra activity will be noted throughout the session, so you may hear me writing. Many clients fall asleep during a Reiki session, so we will decide ahead of time how you wish to be roused, should this happen. Once we reach the end of your session, I ask that you sit up slowly and drink some more water. I appreciate any feedback that you may have, as I’m always looking to improve as a practitioner.

What is Qigong?

Qigong (pronounced chee-gong) is a healing practice that originated in China over 7,000 years ago. Qigong is translated as Qi (energy) and gong (to work with).  Qigong improves mental and physical health by integrating breathing, focused intent, movement, posture, self-massage and sound.  Qigong movements are slow, gentle and suitable for everyone. Regular Qigong practice will keep the energy in your body optimally balanced, improving your overall health and vitality.

What should I expect during my first Qigong treatment?

Upon entering the space, you will be asked to remove your shoes and socks (if you are comfortable doing so) and whether you prefer to sit or lie down for your session. Traditionally, the client sits in a chair, however, it is entirely up to you and your decision will in no way affect the quality of your treatment. You will be asked to close your eyes and take some deep, cleansing breaths. We will go through a brief meditation to prepare you for your treatment, in which I will teach you a simple chant to practice. You will be amazed at the sense of calm and joy that chanting one word will bring to you. In my own experience, the addition of chanting to my daily meditation has brought many improvements. I will use my hands to scan your body, detecting any energy blockages that may be present. I will remove any energy blockages in your breathing, heart, stomach, liver, and kidney systems, as well as your entire spine, then give healing energy back to those areas. Once I am satisfied that I have restored balance to your system, I will again ask you to take some deep, cleansing breaths. I will teach you a Qigong technique to use on yourself; which one will depend on what I discovered in your session.
